DaVinci Resolve 21 Beta Brings Full Photo Editing and On-Device AI to a Unified Workflow

A free public beta marks a push to replace separate photo apps with local AI inside a single, low-cost suite.

Overview

  • A public beta is available for both the free app and the $295 Studio edition, with existing Studio licenses getting the update at no extra cost.
  • The new Photo page adds album tools and RAW adjustments and routes stills into the Color page without breaking the non-destructive workflow.
  • IntelliSearch scans media locally to find objects like animals or vehicles, and CineFocus uses AI depth maps to add realistic background blur without camera depth data.
  • RAW photos from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon, and Sony now load natively, and tethered Capture Live View currently works only with Canon and Sony cameras.
  • Hands-on coverage reports a stronger Neural Engine and a Metal-accelerated Speed Warp for Macs, alongside beta bugs, limited export and metadata controls, no multi-image compositing, and a tentative June–July release window.
