Davie Police Declare Geno Smith Investigation Inactive

Police said no charges will be filed at this time, leaving the NFL able to open its own review under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Overview

  • The probe began after a woman called 911 and posted video about an incident at Smith’s Davie, Florida, home on June 21 that prompted officers to respond and trespass the woman from the property.
  • Davie detectives declared the case inactive on Tuesday because they could not determine a primary aggressor due to conflicting accounts, missing or inaccessible surveillance and a lack of independent witnesses.
  • Smith provided Ring camera clips that did not show a physical altercation, and officers noted minor injuries on both individuals, including scratches and a knot on Smith and a cut and bruise on the woman.
  • Separately, Smith was stopped by Davie police on July 6 and cited for speeding and for not carrying his driver’s license, with the two tickets carrying roughly $400 in fines.
  • Although no criminal charges are planned now, the NFL has been notified and could pursue a league review or discipline if new evidence emerges, a development that could affect Smith’s standing with the Jets before the 2026 season.
