- Marsh died at his home in Connecticut on Friday, Aug. 14, and his death was confirmed by longtime colleague Jim Rotolo; no formal cause has been released though friends and outlets say he had been in declining health.
- He helped launch Creem, wrote for Rolling Stone and other outlets, and authored more than 25 books, including the 1979 Bruce Springsteen biography Born to Run and the Rolling Stone Record Guide.
- Marsh was an early champion of Springsteen, wrote Rolling Stone’s first Springsteen cover story in 1978, escorted Jon Landau to a 1974 Springsteen show, helped create SiriusXM’s E Street Radio, and hosted Kick Out the Jams for about 19 years.
- He and his wife Barbara Carr founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund after their daughter Kristen died of sarcoma in 1993, and Marsh’s charity work supported sarcoma research and families affected by cancer.
