DART Bus Drops Into Roadway Hole on Harry Hines Boulevard, 15 Hospitalized
Officials opened an investigation into why a metal plate covering active roadwork shifted.
Overview
- A DART bus drove into an exposed hole just before 6 a.m. Thursday in the 6300 block of Harry Hines Boulevard near Exchange Parkway, Dallas Fire‑Rescue said.
- Seven rescue units and an EMS supervisor responded and 15 people were taken to hospitals with four sent to Parkland, four to Baylor and seven to Methodist Dallas.
- Six other people, including the bus driver, were treated at the scene but declined hospital transport.
- Dallas Fire‑Rescue confirmed a metal plate that covered an active construction opening shifted and exposed the hole but has not released the cause of the shift or the injured passengers’ medical conditions.
- Temporary steel plates are commonly used to cover trenches at roadworks and a shifted plate can create large hazards for vehicles and riders, so the probe could affect contractor liability, transit safety checks and public roadwork controls.
