Overview
- Following Friday's launch event with crowds and speeches, the new concourse and two platforms open to passengers on Sunday, May 17.
- The project adds an eastern entrance on Neasham Road, an elevated walkway, and a multi‑storey car park for more than 650 vehicles.
- New signalling finished in December and fresh overhead power gear installed this year support more frequent and more reliable East Coast Main Line services.
- The two extra platforms let local trains avoid crossing the fast main line, which reduces conflicts, cuts delays, and creates room for more stops each hour.
- Funding totalled £140m with £43m from the Tees Valley Combined Authority and £96m from Network Rail and the Department for Transport, after a delay from last December blamed on construction and cost pressures.
