Overview
- Organizers announced in late July that Festival Danzatlán IX will take place Aug. 13–16 at the Centro Cultural Mexiquense Bicentenario in Texcoco with Elisa Carrillo directing the festival and headlining the gala on Aug. 15.
- The state of México has allocated about 4 million pesos to Danzatlán from a broader festivals pool reported at roughly 30 million pesos, and officials say funds are being redirected toward territorial and municipal cultural programs.
- The festival program keeps an international focus with guest artists from the Royal Ballet, the Hungarian National Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and the United States appearing in the Gala 'Elisa y Amigos'.
- Most activities will be free and include public onstage classes, open rehearsals on Aug. 14–15, the exhibition 'Cartografías de movimiento' and a homage to Nellie Happee on Aug. 16.
- Elisa Carrillo stressed the priority of building audiences and maintaining artistic quality, warned that limited budgets force a condensed four-day format and urged greater long-term investment to expand the festival for its tenth anniversary.
