- Venice organizers announced on Thursday, July 16 that Ink will have its world premiere on Sept. 2 in the Sala Grande at the Palazzo del Cinema and will play in the festival’s main competition for the Golden Lion.
- The film dramatizes Rupert Murdoch’s 1969 acquisition of The Sun and stars Jack O’Connell as editor Larry Lamb, Guy Pearce as Murdoch and Claire Foy in a key role.
- Screenwriter James Graham adapted the screenplay from his own stage play and Danny Boyle directed and produces with partners including Tessa Ross, Michael Ellenberg and Tracey Seaward.
- StudioCanal fully financed the production and will release Ink theatrically in its territories, including Italy, the U.K., France, Germany, Poland, the Benelux, Australia and New Zealand, while U.S. distribution has not been announced.
- Opening Venice gives Boyle his first film in competition on the Lido and should raise the film’s awards-season profile and its chances of securing additional international deals and a U.S. acquisition after the festival.
