Dangerous Multi-Day Heatwave Grips North and Central Texas

A strong upper-level high pressure ridge is producing life-threatening daytime heat with little overnight cooling or rain relief.

Temperatures will soar into the upper 90s and lower 100s during the rest of the week across Texas.
Practice heat safety for the rest of this week as temperatures will be flirting with the 100-degree mark. 

Overview

  • The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for much of North and Central Texas as highs climb into the low-to-mid 100s and heat-index values reach roughly 105°F to 112°F.
  • Forecasts show a multi-day stretch of triple-digit temperatures for the Dallas–Fort Worth area, with several afternoons expected around 101–105°F and overnight lows stuck in the upper 70s to low 80s.
  • Rain chances for DFW this week remain very low, generally below about 10–15%, so residents should not expect immediate relief from storms or cooler conditions.
  • A tropical system in the northeastern Gulf has organized into Tropical Depression Two and could strengthen into Tropical Storm Bertha, but current guidance concentrates the main impacts on the eastern and central Gulf Coast rather than North Texas.
  • Officials urge heat safety now because prolonged high heat and humidity raise risks for heat-related illness, reduced air quality, and strain on vulnerable people and infrastructure, while forecasts will be updated as the Gulf storm track changes.
