Damien Lang Jailed for 14 Years for Attempted Rape and Coercive Abuse, Given 8-Year Licence

The judge deemed him a dangerous offender, triggering an extended licence with a lifelong restraining order.

Overview

  • Lang, 41, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on 6 March to 14 years in prison plus an eight-year extended licence, and he was given an indefinite restraining order.
  • A jury in January found him guilty of attempted rape and of controlling and coercive behaviour following offences against a former partner.
  • Prosecutors said the attempted rape occurred in a Bali holiday villa after his release from an earlier sentence, with the victim describing threats and a violent struggle before she escaped.
  • Judge Brian Cummings KC cited Lang’s past convictions, including a 2014 rape and a 2015 assault causing actual bodily harm, in assessing him as presenting a significant risk.
  • Merseyside Police praised the victim’s courage, urged others to report abuse, and highlighted support services as part of its Violence Against Women and Girls campaign.
