Overview
- The arboretum announced Thursday that the Twelve Days of Christmas gazebos will be retired after the 2026 holiday season, with the final run set to open Nov. 11 or Nov. 12 and close Jan. 3, 2027.
- President and CEO Sabina Carr said the illuminated, mechanically operated gazebos are reaching the end of their serviceable lifespan after more than a decade of use.
- Leaders urged members and visitors to plan ahead for the farewell season because interest is expected to be strong and special promotions and programming are planned for the final showing.
- The arboretum said Holiday at the Arboretum will continue in future years and reported a light sculpture installation called HYBYCOZO will appear in 2027 while a reimagined holiday experience is developed.
- The display began in 2014 as a planned five-year feature, grew into a 12-year family tradition that drew millions, and the retirement reflects aging animatronics and mechanical parts rather than a cancellation of seasonal events.
