Overview
- The Invictus Games Foundation announced Monday that its board unanimously selected Daejeon over Aalborg and San Diego to host the 2029 Games.
- Organisers have scheduled the Games for Oct. 6–15, 2029 and expect roughly 3,000 people to attend, including about 550 athletes from 26 countries and some 1,100 family members.
- The programme will include 12 sports such as powerlifting, indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, swimming, track and field, archery and cycling, with additional events like esports.
- The decision now requires a signed Event Hosting Agreement between the Invictus Games Foundation and the Daejeon 2029 organising team before venue delivery, budgets and operational roles are finalised.
- South Korea’s central government, Daejeon city officials and the Korea Disabled Veterans Organization have pledged coordinated planning and said hosting will aim to boost rehabilitation services, change perceptions of disability and attract greater Asian participation.
