Overview
- The Invictus Games Foundation’s board unanimously selected Daejeon as the preferred host for the 2029 Games, a decision announced on Monday that makes South Korea the first Asian nation chosen to stage the event.
- The Games are scheduled for Oct. 6–15, 2029, and organisers expect about 550 athletes from 26 countries and roughly 3,000 total participants including family members, officials and delegations.
- Daejeon won against rival bids from Aalborg, Denmark and San Diego, United States after on-site inspections in February, formal bid reviews in May and final presentations in London in June.
- Next steps require the Invictus Games Foundation and the Daejeon 2029 team to sign a formal Event Hosting Agreement and set up an organising committee to decide operating structure, budgets and cost sharing.
- Organisers say the selection is meant to grow regional participation and leave a lasting legacy for rehabilitation and public attitudes toward wounded, injured and sick service members, building on the movement Prince Harry founded in 2014.
