Dad-of-Three Dies After Motorcycle Collides With Lorry on East Lancs Road

Detectives are seeking dashcam and CCTV to determine whether a second HGV helped cause the crash.

Overview

  • A 40-year-old motorcyclist from St Helens was pronounced dead at the scene after a collision with a lorry on the westbound A580 in Haydock at around 11pm on Monday.
  • Officers say one HGV struck the motorcycle and a second HGV may have been indirectly involved in the events leading up to the crash.
  • Two men were initially arrested in connection with the collision but have since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
  • Parts of the westbound carriageway were closed for forensic examination and police have urged anyone with dashcam, CCTV or witness information to contact Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit quoting incident 26000456942.
  • The rider’s family paid tribute to him as a devoted father of three and investigators say forensic work, witness statements and digital footage will be used to decide whether charges follow.
