Dachau and Aichach-Friedberg Lift Poultry Confinement After Bird Flu Case

Officials urge poultry keepers to update registrations for faster outbreak alerts.

Overview

  • Authorities ended the coop-confinement order Monday for the 3 km protection zone and 10 km surveillance zone around the March 11 avian influenza case in Wiedenzhausen.
  • The Aichach-Friedberg district confirmed the same rollback for affected Wittelsbacher Land communities, which include up to about 40 poultry keepers.
  • More than 150 poultry holdings were inspected and tested during the response, and officials reported no further positive cases.
  • Earlier rules in the protection zone also barred moving or selling live birds, meat, eggs, and other poultry products for at least 30 days because infected birds can shed virus for that long.
  • Leaders thanked veterinary teams, firefighters, THW, and the farmer who reported the suspicion early, and they warned that missing or outdated contact details hindered alerts and urged strict biosecurity and complete registrations.
