Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Free PS5 Pro Upgrade With PSSR 2.0 and Expanded Ray Tracing

Digital Foundry reports a 1440p image reconstructed to 4K with reflections limited to windows and glossy surfaces.

Overview

  • The PlayStation 5 Pro patch, which launched Wednesday, delivers the upgrade at no extra cost and the game remains in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members.
  • CD Projekt RED adds Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution 2.0, an AI upscaler that rebuilds lower-resolution frames into sharper 4K output.
  • Ray tracing is enhanced through BVH8 support to improve lighting, shadows, and selected reflections for a richer Night City presentation.
  • Players can pick from three modes: Ray Tracing Pro targeting 30 fps (or 40 fps on VRR displays), Ray Tracing at 60 fps, or Performance without ray tracing that can reach up to 90 fps on VRR.
  • Early technical analysis finds an internal 1440p render upscaled to 4K, notes limited reflection coverage and occasional CPU-related frame dips, and confirms no path tracing as on high-end PCs.
