Cyberabad Police Expand K9 Unit to 18 With Induction of Rado and Rana

Officials frame the buildout as a response to heavier security needs from rapid growth plus frequent high-profile events.

Overview

  • The new recruits are Rado, a Labrador, and Rana, a Belgian Malinois, with both canines trained at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy in Moinabad.
  • The unit now fields 12 explosive-detection dogs, two narcotics-detection dogs, and four tracker canines.
  • Police said Rado and Rana were transferred from the Telangana State Crime Investigation Department to the Cyberabad Commissionerate.
  • Tracker teams support investigations by identifying suspects, searching for missing persons or objects, recovering evidence, sanitising venues for major events, and responding to threat calls.
  • Narcotics canines detect marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, opium, MDMA, and heroin, contributing to drug seizures in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.
