Cwmbran Man Charged With Murder of 74-Year-Old Nicholas ‘Brian’ Parfitt

Police have sought independent scrutiny through a routine referral to the conduct watchdog.

  • Aaron Cook, 37, from Cwmbran has been charged with the murder of Nicholas “Brian” Parfitt and with threats to kill and harassment, and he has been remanded to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
  • Parfitt was found with serious injuries at his Bythway Road home in Trevethin and was pronounced dead at about 4:55pm on Thursday, April 23.
  • Gwent Police said the suspect was known to the victim and that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case.
  • Specially trained officers are supporting Mr Parfitt’s family as detectives ask people to avoid online speculation and to share information via 101, the force website or the Major Incident Police Portal quoting log 2600125343.
  • The force has contacted the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which provides outside oversight of serious incidents, as part of standard procedure.
