Cumbria Police Named Top Force for Public Confidence in England and Wales

Local leaders cite community-focused policing as a driver of the results.

  • The latest Crime Survey for England and Wales, covering the year to September 2025, ranks Cumbria highest overall for public confidence.
  • 71.7% of residents said police understand local concerns, above the 59.2% national average, and 58.3% said local concerns are being dealt with.
  • 60.2% of respondents said Cumbria Police are doing a good or excellent job, the top result nationally.
  • 88.7% of Cumbrians said they are treated with respect by officers.
  • 59.7% said police can be relied on when needed, the second-highest score among 43 forces, as Chief Constable Darren Martland and PFCC David Allen welcomed the findings and stressed continued improvement.
