Overview
- Boyd will start the opener at Wrigley Field on March 26 against Washington, which already named Cade Cavalli for the game.
- In 2025 he went 14-8 with a 3.21 ERA, 154 strikeouts and 42 walks over 179.2 innings across 31 starts.
- He becomes the Cubs’ fourth different Opening Day starter in four seasons, following Shota Imanaga in 2025 and Justin Steele in 2024.
- The club expects Imanaga in the rotation as Steele returns later in spring from Tommy John rehab, with Cade Horton, Jameson Taillon and Edward Cabrera projected as rotation mainstays.
- Boyd rejoined camp after a brief Team USA stint at the WBC and will be stretched out over his remaining spring starts to be ready for Opening Day.
