Cubs Install Champions Gate at Gallagher Way Entrance

Overview

• The gate began installation in late June and will be officially revealed with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 18 as part of the Cubs’ 10th-anniversary weekend for the 2016 team.
• Cubs executives and a planning committee of 2016 alumni including Anthony Rizzo, Dexter Fowler, Jake Arrieta and Ben Zobrist selected an arch instead of a single-player statue to emphasize the collective nature of the championship.
• Architects Stantec and restoration architect Gunny Harboe worked with the team and the same iron manufacturer used for existing Cubs statues to create Wrigley-inspired elements such as brick pillars, bronzed ivy, a bronze medallion and discreet 'W' insignias.
• Bronze plaques on the pillars will list players and managers from the franchise’s three World Series teams and a stone-etched narrative by the team historian will explain each title.
• The gate will serve as the primary, year-round entrance to Gallagher Way, creating a permanent photo spot for fans and tourists and leaving room for future player or team tributes as the franchise grows its public memorials.
