CTA Red Line Train Struck by Apparent Gunfire on Dan Ryan, One Person Injured

State police are investigating to determine whether expressway gunfire caused the train’s damaged front window and the passenger’s injury.

  • A shooting on the northbound I-94/Dan Ryan Expressway near 95th Street occurred Sunday morning at about 8:47 a.m., Illinois State Police said.
  • State police said one person who was on a CTA Red Line train was taken to an area hospital with injuries and the agency has not disclosed how severe those injuries are.
  • Video taken at the scene shows what appears to be a bullet hole and shattered glass in the train’s front window, but investigators have not confirmed that the damage was caused by the expressway shooting or that gunfire caused the passenger’s injuries.
  • The Chicago Transit Authority temporarily stopped Red Line service at the 95th Street terminal during the police response and later resumed normal operations.
