CSPD Details Officer Shooting After Fugitive Hunt in Colorado Springs

Police say the man who shot the officer was not part of the fugitive search.

Officers, U.S. Marshals and the Department of Corrections Fugitive Apprehension Unit had been searching for Frank Williams near East Bijou Street and Balfour Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
During the operation, authorities confirmed Williams’ warrant was no longer active because he was already in the Criminal Justice Center.
After the search concluded, officers approached a man later identified as 35-year-old Michael Foster, who they say acted suspiciously and then ran.
According to police, Foster pulled a gun and shot a CSPD officer, and two officers returned fire, hitting Foster; the officer was released from the hospital Monday, and Foster is in critical but stable condition.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, and the involved CSPD officers are on administrative leave under department policy.
