Overview
- A crude explosive detonated inside a ground-floor room in Rajarhat on Friday night, damaging a multi-storey residential building and injuring one person who is now reported to be out of danger.
- Bomb-disposal teams and police recovered fragments, raw explosive material and at least two additional crude ‘sutli’ devices that were seized or defused from the room.
- CCTV showed a youth placing a white jute bag in the rented room minutes before the blast and investigators say the bag was handed to him by the prime suspect, Md Shamim, who had recently taken the room on rent.
- Police arrested the prime suspect, Md Shamim, and a broker identified as Mohammad Shahenshah who allegedly arranged the rental using a false identity, while the building owner and a minor courier have been questioned.
- The NIA collected forensic samples during a site visit and will report to the Home Ministry as local police continue CDR analysis and follow-up inquiries to establish source, motive and wider links.
