Overview
- The Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT) fixed a counterpayment of 1,472,984,339.58 MXN (about 85.57 million USD) for AT&T to retain 800/850 MHz concessions.
- The CRT broke the amount into 1,452,567,146.28 MXN for Region 9 (Mexico City, Estado de México, Morelos, Hidalgo) and 20,417,193.30 MXN for pockets in Jalisco, Nuevo León, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Guanajuato.
- AT&T must notify the CRT whether it accepts the conditions in the week of July 15 and, if it accepts, pay in the last week of August to keep the spectrum through 2046–2047.
- The fee is material to AT&T’s Mexico business, equal to roughly 8% of its Q1 2026 revenue, and sits against already high spectrum costs that have been about 17% of annual revenues.
- The bands involved offer long reach and strong indoor penetration for 4G/5G and IoT, so the company’s choice will affect near‑term network coverage, wholesale deals and the pool of incumbently held spectrum ahead of three CRT 2026 5G auctions.
