Overview
- Authorities reopened the Cristo Redentor–Los Libertadores corridor at 08:00 Monday for all vehicle types in both directions following mountain clearance work.
- The pass had been shut preventively from midnight Sunday after 22:00 cutoffs at Uspallata and Guardia Vieja under a new front of instability.
- A short weather window allowed a reopening from 09:00 Saturday for roughly 24 hours before deteriorating conditions forced another closure.
- Forecasts call for temperatures as low as −12°C at Las Cuevas, Puente del Inca and Punta de Vacas, maintaining a high risk of ice and requiring extra caution.
- Significant queues built up, including more than 200 private vehicles and four buses in Uspallata and about 1,000 trucks along Route 7, while the southern Paso Pehuenche also returned to normal hours on Monday.
