CPSC Reissues Recall for 429,000 Casely MagSafe Power Banks After Death and In-Flight Fire

The update highlights wider risks from small lithium-ion batteries in everyday chargers.

Overview

  • The CPSC reannounced in April 2026 a recall (No. 26-418) covering about 429,200 Casely Power Pods due to fire and burn hazards.
  • The action follows 28 new incident reports on top of an earlier 51, including an August 2024 explosion that later proved fatal and a February 2026 airplane fire that caused burns.
  • The lithium-ion cells inside the chargers can overheat, swell, ignite, or explode, creating a risk of serious injury or death.
  • Owners should stop using the devices, request a free replacement through Casely’s recall site with photos marked "Recalled," and use local hazardous-waste programs for disposal rather than trash or curbside recycling.
  • Affected units are 5,000mAh MagSafe power banks labeled model E33A, sold online from March 2022 through September 2024 for $30 to $70 with "Casely" on the front and the model number on the back.
