CPSC Recalls Nearly 195,000 PurSteam Handheld Steamers Over Burn Risk

Owners should stop using the devices immediately, submitting proof of a cut power cord to obtain a refund.

Overview

  • The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Aterian announced the nationwide recall on Feb. 5, citing a hazard where the steamers can expel hot water during use.
  • About 75,400 Elite Travel Steamers (model PS-510) and about 119,000 Mighty Lil Steamers (model PS-550) are affected, largely sold online from December 2020 through April 2025 on PurSteam.com, Amazon and Walmart.
  • Incident reports include 80 cases for PS-510 with 14 burn injuries and 392 cases for PS-550 with 40 burn injuries, including two second-degree burns, mostly reported between 2020 and 2024.
  • Affected units include those bought after December 2020 or carrying specific YYMM date codes printed on a bottom label, with identification details provided in the recall notice.
  • Refunds require filing at recall.pursteam.com, cutting the power cord and uploading a photo; some customers may be asked to return units, and support is available at 833-910-6095 or recall@pursteam.com.
