Overview
- On Thursday the Crown Prosecution Service charged Gary Glitter, 82, with four alleged sexual offences said to have taken place between 1978 and 1981.
- The counts include one alleged unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three alleged indecent assaults of a girl under 14, with police reporting the complaint was made in January 2025.
- The CPS said prosecutors reviewed the evidence closely and worked in coordination with the Metropolitan Police before deciding that prosecution was both possible and in the public interest.
- Glitter is already a convicted sex offender with past convictions in Vietnam and the UK and remains in custody; he is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 5 August 2026.
- The CPS has stressed the defendant’s right to a fair trial and asked the media and public not to publish material that could prejudice the case, a warning that could shape how reporting and social commentary proceed before the hearing.
