Courtney Clenney To Present Plea Deal in Boyfriend’s 2022 Killing

A judge must accept undisclosed terms that follow the estate’s earlier voluntary dismissal of claims against Clenney.

Overview

  • Clenney’s attorneys and prosecutors told the court a negotiated plea agreement will be formally presented for the judge’s consideration at a hearing scheduled for Monday, Aug. 10.
  • The defense and prosecutors have not disclosed the plea’s factual or sentencing terms and the agreement will not take effect unless the judge accepts it.
  • Obumseli’s estate previously resolved and then voluntarily dismissed its civil claims against Clenney, though the estate’s separate claims against the condominium and management remain active.
  • Clenney has been jailed since her August 2022 arrest on a second-degree murder charge and her defense says she acted in self-defense, citing a defense-hired medical examiner’s testimony that she threw the knife.
  • If the judge accepts the plea, the criminal case could close and bring legal finality for the family while the ongoing property and security litigation could still affect other defendants and public scrutiny of building safety.
