Court Rejects Apple Stay and Orders 24‑Hour Filing on App Store Link Fees

The ruling forces immediate fee proposals that could determine how much developers pay and shape global regulatory scrutiny.

Overview

  • Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers denied Apple’s request to pause the fee process on Aug. 11, 2026, and gave Apple 24 hours to file a detailed outline of fees while giving Epic Games 60 days to file its legal response.
  • The filing requirement follows an April 2025 contempt finding that has stopped Apple from collecting any fees on outbound App Store links in the U.S. since that order.
  • An appeals court upheld the contempt finding but said Apple may be entitled to reasonable fees for its intellectual property and sent the question of how much back to the district court, creating a parallel docket while the Supreme Court prepares to hear Apple’s appeal.
  • Apple previously proposed charging 12–27 percent on some redirected purchases, a scale that limited developer use, and Epic CEO Tim Sweeney publicly called the proposed charges a "menu of junk fees."
  • The district court’s fee calculation will directly affect developer revenue and App Store rules and could influence regulators and platform policy decisions in other countries if those fees are adopted or later altered.
