Overview
- Police said Ann Widdecombe was found dead at her Haytor, Devon, home on Thursday after suffering serious injuries and investigators believe she was attacked the previous day at about 12:30pm.
- A 28-year-old white British man was arrested at a Rotherham property on Saturday and is linked by CCTV and neighbour accounts to movements that morning, including someone placing a wooden object into a red car.
- Counter Terrorism Policing took charge of the inquiry on Monday after what they called new information and evidence, and the suspect has been re-arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
- Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood told Parliament the suspect was not known to Prevent and police have warned the public not to speculate about motive while forensic work continues.
