Councils Roll Out Heating Oil Support Ahead of Crisis and Resilience Fund Launch

Heating oil price spikes are pressuring off-gas rural households.

Overview

  • Dorset Council confirmed £494,167 in extra funding, with payments to residents in urgent need expected to begin later this week through its crisis support arrangements.
  • Devon’s allocation of £1,303,439 for 2026/27 has been confirmed, with district councils set to distribute targeted help to low-income households that rely on oil from 1 April under the new scheme.
  • Westmorland and Furness has opened an immediate Household Support Fund scheme offering one-off payments of £200 to £250, plus £20 per child, on a first-come, first-served basis until 31 March.
  • North Norfolk District Council will vote next week on a proposed £50,000 local top-up to be distributed via charities to residents struggling with surging oil bills.
  • The national package of more than £52 million is being routed through the new Crisis and Resilience Fund from 1 April, with eligibility and award levels set locally; heating oil is outside the Ofgem price cap and typical 500‑litre minimum orders heighten upfront costs.
