- Dozens of councils published complete candidate lists on Friday, confirming large fields across England for the 7 May vote.
- Hillingdon lists 256 candidates across 21 wards, while Newcastle-under-Lyme has 165 candidates for all 44 seats in an all-out contest.
- Gateshead will also hold an all-out election for all 66 seats, and Hammersmith and Fulham has candidates for every one of its 50 seats.
- Staggered contests include Salford with 109 candidates electing a third of councillors, Bolton with 113 candidates across 20 wards, and Wigan with 132 candidates for 25 seats.
- Residents must register by midnight Monday 20 April and apply for postal votes by 5pm Tuesday 21 April, and voters must show photo ID at polling stations.
