Police say the delivery was meant as a protest over community stray dogs and have remitted the case to the judiciary following an indiciamento.

Overview

  • On Monday, July 6, councilor Andreza “Deza” Guerreiro opened a cardboard box delivered to her municipal chamber office and found the body of a small dog, prompting a police report and evidence preservation.
  • Investigators traced the shipment, recovered the carcass for forensic exam and identified a woman who has confessed to sending the animal, saying she intended it as a protest about local community dogs.
  • On July 9 the Civil Police formally charged the suspect with injúria real, qualified animal cruelty, irregular transport or disposal of solid waste and pollution for improper carcass disposal, and sent the file to the judiciary.

  • The councilor, a long-time animal-rights advocate who runs a rescue NGO, praised the charges and vowed to seek accountability while the case moves through the courts and forensics proceed.
