Coroner Identifies Infant, Rules Lancaster Hotel Drowning Accidental

Investigators say the 5-month-old died in a hotel-room hot tub.

Overview

  • The child, identified as A'zara Beckett of Coatesville, was found unresponsive inside a room at the Best Western Plus Intercourse Village Inn & Suites in Leacock Township after a reported drowning Monday around 6 p.m.
  • First responders pulled her from the water and tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Lancaster County coroner ruled the death accidental after an autopsy found freshwater drowning as the cause.
  • Coroner Stephen Diamantoni confirmed the drowning occurred in a hot tub inside the hotel room, not in a pool.
  • Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation with help from the district attorney’s office, child-welfare authorities, and the coroner, and the baby’s mother and Best Western say they are cooperating.
