Cork Murder Trial: Adam Corcoran Admits Killing Partner, Denies Dismemberment and Arson

Prosecutors challenge his account using forensic findings.

Overview

  • Adam Corcoran, 31, told the Central Criminal Court he killed Daena Walsh, 27, but said he cannot remember the attack.
  • He rejected claims he tried to dismember her or set their Midleton apartment on fire, saying he believed during his 999 call that she had died by suicide.
  • Under defence questioning, he described heavy recent use of alcohol, cocaine and prescription drugs, claimed Walsh had a red-handled knife and was self-harming, and said he "lashed out."
  • Prosecutors asserted a serrated blue knife was used multiple times, alleged a bread knife caused a post‑mortem injury to Walsh’s left arm, and suggested aerosol cans were placed on the cooker; Corcoran said he did not know or denied this.
  • Earlier evidence to the jury outlined 11 stab wounds, 14 incised wounds and a partially amputated left arm, with proceedings continuing before Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford in Cork.
