Overview
- Multiple anonymous emails on June 10 targeted mayoral offices, chief minister’s offices, municipal headquarters, the BSE and RSS sites across Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar and prompted immediate evacuations and searches.
- Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, dog teams, local police and fire brigades conducted room-by-room searches and cleared sites with no explosives found, and officials in several cities later declared some threats hoaxes.
- The messages claimed responsibility under the name 'Khalistan National Army' and invoked Operation Bluestar and Operation Woodrose as motives for timed attacks set out in the emails.
- Investigators said technical forensics have been hampered because some mails used encrypted providers such as ProtonMail and were routed through foreign VPNs and servers, so cybercrime units, ATS and central teams are leading tracing efforts.
- The alerts disrupted civic work and public services, officials urged calm, and investigators warned that heavy publicity can encourage copycats while they continue cross-state probes to determine whether the incidents are linked.
