Construction Worker Hospitalized After 20-Foot Fall at UCF Stadium Renovation

An investigation is under way to find out whether safety measures failed.

Overview

  • A 29-year-old construction worker fell about 20 feet at the UCF Acrisure Bounce House West/New Roth Tower site on Friday and was conscious when first responders arrived.
  • Seminole County Fire Rescue said crews reached the scene within minutes and paramedics transported the worker to Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center as a trauma alert.
  • Fire department spokesperson Doreen Overstreet said drywall and mesh material at the site helped break the worker’s fall.
  • Contractors secured the construction area and officials have opened a formal investigation, but they have not released the cause of the fall or the worker’s current medical status.
  • The incident happened during the New Roth West Tower renovation, an 85,600-square-foot project that began in December 2024 and is due to finish in July 2026, and it could prompt safety reviews that affect the remaining work schedule.
