Congress Names 35-Member Panel for Assam Polls, Taps Gaurav Gogoi as Chair
The panel will steer alliance talks before finalising candidates for elections due in the coming months.

- Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge constituted the Assam Pradesh Election Committee on Tuesday.
- State unit chief Gaurav Gogoi will chair the 35-member body that includes Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Bhupen Borah, Ripun Borah and Paban Singh Ghatowar.
- The committee will take decisions on alliances and ticket distribution for the upcoming assembly polls.
- In addition to the core members, the panel will include the APCC general secretary (organisation), heads of frontal organisations, and chairs of the SC, OBC, Minority, Adivasi and Tea-Garden departments.
- Opposition parties, including Raijor Dal, discussed a united front, with Akhil Gogoi backing Gaurav Gogoi as the preferred chief ministerial face and proposing that Raijor Dal contest only 15 seats.
