Conference Center at Temple Square To Close March 30, 2026–March 1, 2027

Officials are preparing traffic, parking, shuttle, hospitality measures for a 2027 temple open house projected to draw 3–5 million visitors.

Overview

  • The Church announced an 11‑month public closure to enable construction, infrastructure upgrades and exhibit development ahead of the Salt Lake Temple open house.
  • Major events will continue at the venue, including April and October General Conference, Luz de las Naciones and the Tabernacle Choir Christmas concerts, with parking and elevators remaining open.
  • All departmental uses such as meetings, trainings and social functions will be suspended for the duration of the closure.
  • Salt Lake City projects 18,000–25,000 additional visitors per day during the 2027 open house, with a March 10 public hearing on proposed temporary road closures near Temple Square.
  • Plans under review include park‑and‑ride shuttles along North Temple west of I‑15, added parking, TRAX use and downtown visitor support, while temple scaffolding removal and baptistry finish work continue and Easter displays are installed beginning late February.
