Concanaco-Servytur Activates Crime Observatory to Support National Anti-Extortion Pact

The private-sector tool turns official crime data into comparable local rates and a coordination dashboard to tackle underreporting and drive joint action toward 2026 targets.

Overview

  • The interactive platform maps six high-impact offenses—extortion, homicide, kidnapping, robbery to business, vehicle theft and cargo theft—to guide prevention for commerce, services and tourism.
  • A Concanaco survey reports a 1.2% increase in perceived extortion in 25 of 32 states in 2025 compared with 2024.
  • Its coordination semaforo shows 50% of affiliated regions report effective public–private collaboration, 44% are in process and 6% show little or none, with concerns in San Luis Potosí and Tabasco and stronger ties in northern states.
  • Crime rates will be calculated per 100,000 inhabitants at the municipal level using data from the National Public Security System.
  • Concanaco cites 2023 insecurity costs of 124 billion pesos and says the effort will bolster training and use of the 089 anonymous line, enhance reliable reporting and reduce extortion without replacing authorities.
