Overview
- Deputies responded to the 14200 block of Texarkana Street a little after 1 p.m. Saturday, where they found 39-year-old Yanira Nafin and EMS could not save her.
- Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on Sunday identified Nafin and said her common-law husband, 43-year-old Jose Arquimides Romero, is charged in the killing.
- Romero remained at the residence, was taken into custody, and was booked into the Harris County Jail.
- Three children in the home, ages 3, 8 and 13, hid during the gunfire and were not hurt.
- Detectives say the shooting appears to have followed a dispute over Romero’s back pain, and the homicide investigation remains open.
