Commercial LPG Sales Resume in 29 States as India Ramps Output

Authorities report a 31% output increase to keep household cylinders flowing.

Overview

  • Officials said household LPG supply remains protected even as daily bookings surged to about 8.8 million, far above the pre-crisis average of roughly 5.5 million.
  • Two LPG carriers, Shivalik and Nanda Devi, crossed the Strait of Hormuz carrying about 92,700 tonnes and are scheduled to reach Mundra on March 16 and Kandla on March 17.
  • Enforcement drives intensified nationwide with checks and seizures reported in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other states to curb hoarding and diversion.
  • Restaurants and small businesses across several cities trimmed menus or shifted to coal, wood or induction cooking, with Kerala reporting closures and Tamil Nadu offering a temporary power subsidy for electric stoves.
  • The Centre also moved operational levers including restarting commercial cylinder distribution and allocating additional kerosene for sale through ration shops to relieve pressure on cooking needs.
