Commando Killed in Manipur Anti-Drug Raid as Main Suspect Is Arrested

Police say a detained suspect stabbed the officer during questioning, leaving authorities to search for a second suspect and carry out a full investigation.

  • A Havildar identified as Kh. Suresh Singh of the 4th India Reserve Battalion was stabbed during an intelligence-led anti-drug operation in Moijing Khongkok and was declared dead at the Thoubal district hospital.
  • Police detained two men during the raid and say one detainee, Md. Naobi alias Mahil (25), allegedly attacked Havildar Singh with a knife while being questioned.
  • Following intensive searches the morning after the attack, Thoubal District Police arrested Md. Naobi at about 8:45 am and said a second detainee remains at large.
  • Authorities have opened a detailed probe to establish the sequence of events and to determine whether operational or intelligence failures contributed to the killing.
  • Local political leaders and the All Yaripok Meitei Pangal Clubs Organisation condemned the killing, urged strict legal action, and called for justice for the bereaved family while police continue search operations.
