Colorado Springs Opens Applications to Fill District 2 Seat After Bailey Resigns
The city launched a two-week application process to appoint an interim District 2 representative for swearing-in on April 13.
Overview
- Applications are open March 12–26 for the District 2 appointment, with the selected member slated to be sworn in on April 13, 2026.
- Under the city charter, the council must appoint a replacement within 30 days to fill the vacancy.
- The appointed member will serve through April 2027, when a two-year District 2 term appears on the municipal ballot, before the seat returns to a four-year cycle in April 2029.
- Eligible applicants must be at least 25, be U.S. citizens, have lived in Colorado Springs for the past year, and reside in District 2.
- Tom Bailey resigned effective immediately after the city clerk verified a recall petition, calling it an abuse of the recall process, as council reactions ranged from praise to President Lynette Crow-Iverson tearing up his resignation letter and recall proponents cited his Ford Amphitheater tickets and support for an affordable-housing project.
