Colleen Hoover Backs 'It Ends With Us' Sequel After Lively–Baldoni Settlement

Her public support highlights strong audience demand while studio-held rights and lingering legal and industry concerns leave a direct follow-up uncertain.

Overview

  • Baldoni and his Wayfarer company reached a settlement with Blake Lively in May 2026 that ordered payment of just over $400,000 to cover legal fees and costs.
  • Lively filed suit in late 2024 accusing Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment and of running a smear campaign, Baldoni denied the claims and his later countersuit was dismissed.
  • Hoover said she is proud of the 2024 film and told Variety in late September 2026 that she would support a screen adaptation of her sequel novel but that she does not own the sequel rights.
  • Multiple industry sources told outlets that, despite box-office demand, studios and executives consider it unlikely that Lively and Baldoni would reunite for a follow-up and that rights-holders would have to lead any move forward.
  • The original movie was a commercial success on a reported $25 million budget with roughly $350 million worldwide gross, it is streaming on Hulu, and Hoover is promoting a separate adaptation, Verity, due October 2, 2026.
