- Governor Indira Vizcaíno Silva named Teniente Fabián Ricardo Gómez Calcáneo to lead the state SSP, replacing Contralmirante Gerardo Romero Santana.
- Vizcaíno said the new chief is expected to accelerate progress toward peace and thanked Romero Santana for his service since January 24, 2025.
- This marks the fourth leadership change in Colima's SSP during Vizcaíno’s term, following appointments in November 2021, September 2022, and January 2025.
- The announcement came four days after the killings of María Eugenia Geña Delgado and her daughter Sheila Amezcua Delgado in Colima City, relatives of federal officials Mario and Felipe Delgado.
- Gómez Calcáneo is a Navy lieutenant who previously led municipal security in Atizapán de Zaragoza and holds degrees in law and political science, multiple master’s degrees, and a doctorate in public security.
