Colgate-Palmolive India Raises Toothpaste Prices Up to 5%

Rising raw-material, packaging and transport costs have prompted modest price rises and selective pack-size boosts to protect margins while limiting consumer pushback.

Overview

  • Reports published Friday confirm Colgate implemented price and pack-size changes in May that generally raise toothpaste MRPs by about 4–5 percent.
  • Specific changes include the 200g+100g+toothbrush combo up Rs 8 to Rs 208, the 200g Dental Cream up Rs 5 to Rs 135, and the 100g pack up Rs 3 to Rs 73 with roughly 10 percent more quantity.
  • Colgate also increased Max Fresh Blue 70g (now Rs 83) with 15 percent extra and Visible White Purple 200g (now Rs 395) with 20 percent extra, with premium variants taking larger increases.
  • Distributors say lower-MRP, mass-market packs are likely to remain insulated for now because heavy price sensitivity could hurt demand in those segments.
  • Toothpaste is about 80 percent of Colgate-Palmolive India’s revenue, so these moves aim to protect margins amid rising commodity, packaging and logistics costs and have so far produced little change in the share price.
