Cold Weekend Grips Much of South Africa

SAWS issued an advisory for very cold north‑eastern high‑lying Eastern Cape with forecasts of morning fog, localized frost and isolated coastal showers.

Overview

  • The South African Weather Service maintained a cold‑spell forecast for the weekend, saying most provinces will see cool to very cold daytime temperatures.
  • Morning fog and localized frost are expected in higher interior areas, notably parts of Mpumalanga, the Free State, KwaZulu‑Natal and sections of the Eastern Cape.
  • An advisory covers very cold conditions in the north‑eastern high‑lying areas of the Eastern Cape, while SAWS reported no active impact‑based warnings or fire danger warnings.
  • Clouds will increase in some coastal zones with isolated showers and rain mainly along parts of the KwaZulu‑Natal coast and nearby inland areas.
  • UVB risk remains elevated in places despite low air temperatures, especially in the Western Cape, Gauteng and parts of KwaZulu‑Natal, which means sunburn risk persists on clear days.
