Coia Opens Neighborhood Fiestas With Parade, Music and Permitted Attractions

The three-day festival opens Vigo’s July–August neighborhood program under municipal oversight with a planned fireworks display.

Overview

  • The multi-day Coia festival began with a street parade by Vai de Baile and an official pregón, or opening speech, delivered by Amelia García Domínguez “Mely” with Mayor Abel Caballero in attendance.
  • Permitted rides and attractions and a full program of music and performances are operating for residents and visitors throughout the festival.
  • Program highlights from the opening day included Peña Xuntanza and Unión Musical de Valladares earlier in the day, afternoon sets from Jazz Vigo and Club Deportivo Espiral Breaking Vigo, and evening verbena shows by La Nave and Nevada.
  • Organizers scheduled a fireworks display at 14:00 during the festival and say the program will continue through Tuesday under municipal permit and safety oversight.
  • Coia’s fiestas serve as the season opener for Vigo’s string of neighborhood celebrations, a run that local officials and organizers expect to be followed by traditional events such as Bouzas.
